Educational Philosophy
An Islamic Lens
It is narrated in Al Bukhari that the Messenger of God, peace and blessings upon him, has said, “Whomever God wishes well, He gives discernment in matters of the religion and inspires him with right guidance.” May Allah make us and our students among those with discernment and wisdom.
At Peace Terrace we believe, like many in the classical tradition before us, that an Islamic education is the lifelong commitment to pursuing Truth, aiming to embody all of the excellent virtues of goodness, and an endless desire to create beauty in the world. Thus, our motto of Faith, Character, Knowledge, and Community continually reinforces these principles and motivates us to foster these timeless values in all of our students.
As educational and transformational leaders, Peace Terrace’s staff – from its support staff and its teachers to its administration– strives to model Prophetic examples and intellectual virtues.
Classical Education
Classical education is a rigorous and formal learning method that rests on the concept of the Trivium—grammar, logic, and rhetoric—as the structure of every subject and discipline.
At Peace Terrace Academy, students integrate the three stages of the Trivium into everything they learn. The learning process moves through each of the three stages.
Grammar is the foundation of a subject—the collection of its parts and the mechanics of how they work.
Logic is the organization of this collection of parts and mechanics of grammar into a whole and an understanding of the relationships among them.
Rhetoric is the ability to apply the foundational knowledge and logical understanding of a subject purposefully and creatively to solve a problem, express an opinion with clarity, or create something new.
The classical teaching method at Peace Terrace Academy develops active learners who feel seen and heard, resulting in self-assured and confident individuals.
